Mehta Publishing House: The Fountain's Magic - Magical metamorphosis of an Indian woman

Discouraging terms such as global economic crisis, inflation, pay-cuts, cut-downs, depression etc. were reverberating around me as I stood at the book-store. That's when the word 'magic' caught my eye, maybe this is what was necessary to turn around the prevailing gloomy situation. I turned around to read carefully. The title of the book 'The fountain's magic' and the dark silhouettes on the cover page were attractively designed to increase my interest. The final decision was made after reading the intriguing synopsis on the back page. So, this weekend I planned to read Mehta publishers', 'The fountain's magic' written by Marya Rahator.

As, I followed the fine print in the book the fictitious characters transformed into real individuals in my mind. An innocent story that bloomed in the captivating scenic beauty of 'Wellington' ...loneliness and ugliness of betrayal... The story kept me glued in anticipation till the end due to its unpredictable characters and surprising twists and turns that unfold as a reader progresses.

This book's a fine piece of contemporary Indian literary work. It comprises of vivid description of individuals, experiences and nature. The pleasant feeling lingers on even after you finish reading the book; it definitely leaves you more confident to face the vicissitudes in life, positively.

A modern classic story of courage and ability of a 21st century Indian woman. The story unfolds over a series of unequally distributed chapters. Each chapter introduces either a new character or a new situation. Thanks to this a reader wants to continue reading without keeping the book down.

It portrays honest and sincere thoughts of empowerment and individual capabilities to face unforeseen difficulties in life with added confidence.

Mehta Publishing House: In the Hands of Taliban - The revealing account of a kidnapped journalist

What I Personally like is sitting back in my bean bag in the balcony of my apartment and having a coffee in one hand and a book in the other and just letting the day pass as the pages become thick in my left hand. But this time it was no fun and things weren’t this simple. This was a difficult experience even for the readers to go through- what to talk about Joanie de Rijke who travelled this terrible path in her life. Even more difficult was her revealing it to the world in a manner that they actually feel like stepping into her footsteps.

A female journalist risks her life to reveal the face of the Taliban to the world and things get worse and the brutal face of the Taliban was revealed to her. Joanie de Rijke-was taken hostage in November 2008 and was forced into several rapes by Ghazi- one of the many Talibani’s who held her hostage.

It is so unfortunate to get to know the reality that this lady has gone through. In fact the very same lady was there for the world to know the real face of the Taliban. All what that she went through makes us realize the pains that these people take to get us what we want. In the end respect is all what I can give.

Mehta Publishing House: Why My Third Husband Will Be a Dog: The Amazing Adventures of an Ordinary Woman

I do not understand women. What man does? Lisa Scottoline writes about women from a woman's view. I think this book is insightful and funny. Women, I am certain, will probably understand references that leave me scratching my head. When she talks about being braless, for example, I get an image she probably did not intend.

Lisa Scottoline's new book is often hilarious, like when she writes about Spanx ("like slipping into a tourniquet"). Lisa, who wrote sixteen novels, also penned a regular newspaper column about the lives of ordinary women. Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog edits and re-presents her columns.

Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog, details events common to the lives of ordinary women. We relive incidents like: choosing which bacteria to accept, the art of reading ads, and lessons learned from Archie comic books. We see a new perspective on hot flashes, which are really "God's way of compensating women for all the years they spent being cold." Then we contemplate washing our face with diamond dust (it exfoliates the skin - but wash it off or your "face will be sparkly").

Two sections I especially enjoyed were the concept of a new religion where a wife can have as many husbands as she wishes, and a chore list where men can exchange "have a baby" with "take out the trash". The idea of men bearing the children is interesting at best and horrible to contemplate at worst.

This book definitely deserves space on your book shelf.. So what are you waiting for.. Order now... http://www.mehtapublishinghouse.com/BookDetail.aspx?BookCode=1723
I highly recommend this book for regular comedy breaks. The chapters are very short, so you can read a chapter during a 5 minute coffee break and take the laugh back with you to work. I especially recommend this book to women and hope someday a woman will explain the parts that passed me by.

Mehta Publishing House: In The Hands of Taliban written by Joanie de Rijke

Joanie de Rijke, a journalist by profession, set out for an interview with some Afghan rebels, to ignite her destined future.

The best part of the book is its style of pain delivery that it gives you when you tear up the lines of the pages herein. At first the book seems to be an adventure with bits of fantasy. But that is not exactly where the trouble begins. The book engulfs you into itself and takes you to the place of action. The reader actually feels that he is there and is able to feel the emotions going on the story. The characters have been portrayed cleverly by giving names such as the ‘Osama freak’. Joane de Rijke feels that she was being eaten raw while she was getting repeatedly raped. But at the same time she shows that she is glad that she was just raped and not killed. Rijke also elaborates the living of the families of the kidnappers and the duel nature of Ghazi. Ghazi is a rapist at once and a humble friend the next.

The narration in the book, as is expected to be, is a bit journalistic. And in its harsh tone criticizes the denial of ransom giving by the Dutch government. So true and so disturbing.

Mehta Publishing House: Schapelle - The Facts, The Evidence, The Truth

A young woman named Schapelle Corby sets out on her first holiday in three years to Indonesia with two friends and is arrested for carrying 4.1kgs (9.038lbs) of marijuana in her boogie board bag at Bali airport. She is thrown into an Indonesia prison with a death row sentence looming and a trial takes place six months later with a media frenzy. Is she innocent or guilty?

This story has fascinated many who debate the facts—did she transport drugs or not? Why would anyone want to willingly transport 4.1 kgs of marijuana to a country where it wasn't even worth one-tenth of the value in that country?

Many characters enter this story, some genuine, some not and the result—20 YEARS!

Four years on—she has lost her father, grandmother and stepfather since being in prison. Schapelle lives in an open air cell with up to 10 women, no clean water, no fresh food, heat that is unbearable, corruption, torture and most horrendous circumstances.

Mehta Publishing House: “Parenting the Office” – There is so much to say and write about this book

“Parenting the Office” – There is so much to say and write about this book. I will try to keep it very short, but my less words count for more in this case.  While reading the book I kept on analyzing all the stories and the references given in the book. What I found was that I could map my own experiences from family and from office to most of the stories and the points touched in the book.
No doubt that many books are there in the market telling you how to manage your office or family.  But the point that makes this book stand out is the ideation of mapping the similarity between the official life and the parental life and how can they complement each other.  Short stories given in the book support the conceptualization of the authors in great manner. The book is written in a straightforward manner and it is quite readable also.
I liked the tips given at the end of every chapter, but sometimes they sounded too theoretical. After all we are human beings and it is our birth right to jealous or get angry or be a little wicked and this book covers all these emotions of human behavior. Coming back to the little shady side of the book is that some points are repeated and you may find that the authors are spoon feeding you.
The author(s) claims that the stories told in the book and the experiences shared are real, and I feel it can be true as even I felt that similar events happen around me in family and in office.
If we just ignore some repeated stuff in the book I think that there is something for everyone in the book and it is worth reading.
